Pain

Let's talk about pain.

In the world we live in, it is a gaurantee in some way, shape or form.

Everyone experiences pain differently.

So let's talk about physical pain. Not that acute pain from stubbing a toe, but that shit that sits with you for days, months, years.Dragging your soul down into a pit of despair.

As a nurse, I have seen this happen to people in all walks of life. As a dancer I have experienced it personally,  as a daughter I have watched it suck the happiness of living from family.

So why talk about it and more importantly, what to say?

I don't have the answers but I do offer some guidance.

Let's get to it.
Here are some suggestions to feel better.

I didn't say "take the pain away"
I said, feel better.

Did you catch that?

1. How you think is how you feel.

What the fuck does that mean?

Well, let me explain. Your body follows your brain. Not the other way around.  So if you wake up and the first thing you focus on, is "the pain" , your life, your being, your body focuses on the pain.

So try this " I am super excited about (blank)"

Change your thoughts, change your focus, and with constant reassurance from your mind, your body will learn, it will be ok.

Again, we aren't talking "pain is gone"

Feeling better is a great step to freedom from pain.

It makes the world feel lighter. Like life is worth loving.

2. What does the pain feel like.

Don't just shake your head at me and say

" well, it fucking hurts. So now what?"

Sit down someplace quiet (or stand if you have to) and close your eyes.
-where does it hurt?
-what does it feel like? Sharp, stabbing, aching, burning?
-if it had a shape what does it look like?
Now tell your body, you recognize the pain and are working on feeling better.

And think of things that actually make the pain feel better. Not necassarily go away, but better.

Warm baths, music, reading, movement.

The body loves movement.

Why is this important? It's mindful meditation on your body. It tells you and your body, "it's ok, I know we are injured, but we got this and we will get better"

You will find the comfort in taking some form of control will , in and of itself, help you feel better.

Much of what the pain lives off of is, the anticipation of more pain and injury.

Taking control, being mindful and focusing inward can help.

That's all I have now.

But remember, when Life sucks, close your eyes, take a big deep breath in, feel the breath, and remember,it will be ok.
